Trisha Yearwood is the inaugural recipient of the June Carter Cash Humanitarian Award, CMT revealed on Monday (March 25). She shared that she's “humbled” as CMT made the announcement.

Yearwood will receive the honor and perform “Put It In A Song” — the first release from her upcoming project — live at the 2024 CMT Music Awards, set for Sunday, April 7 at Moody Center in Austin, Texas. The June Carter Cash-inspired award “recognizes an artist, duo/group or industry veteran who demonstrates an exceptional dedication to community and their fellow artists, embodying June’s spirit as a fierce advocate and initiator in paying it forward, helping others find their voice and using their platform to inspire and uplift others,” according to CMT. Yearwood was selected as the recipient of the award for her philanthropic work with Habitat for Humanity over the last two decades, establishing Dottie’s Yard to help rescue animals, involvement in the Susan B. Komen Foundation and other charitable organizations. The beloved singer-songwriter is returning to the CMT stag for the first time since 2019.

“We are thrilled to honor the incomparable Trisha Yearwood with the inaugural June Carter Cash Humanitarian Award at this year’s show,” CMT Music Awards executive producers said in a statement on Monday. “Trisha has a unique ability to rally a community, whether that may be families in need with Habitat for Humanity, or uplifting her fellow artists and entertainers trying to carve a path in the industry. She embodies the bold strength of June, who tirelessly devoted herself to service and community, and the namesake for this award. Both multi-hyphenate trailblazers eloquently crafted a script for others to model, letting their hearts and authenticity guide their personal, professional and public lives.”

Yearwood said she’s “humbled” to receive the inaugural June Carter Cash Humanitarian Award, and to deliver the debut live performance of the new song she wrote with Erin Enderlin and Jim “Moose” Brown.
