Kenny Chesney shared the stage with Kelsea Ballerini as the two powerhouse country artists from East Tennessee kicked off Chesney’s headlining “I Go Back Tour” on Thursday night (March 23). Chesney posted a few photos on instagram on Friday morning (March 24), reliving the high-energy tour kickoff.

“Thank you, Charlottesville, VA, for one incredible night last night,” Chesney captioned his John Paul Jones Arena snapshots. “What a way to kick off the #IGOBACKTOUR. And a big thank you to @KelseaBallerini. It was magic up there with you. Gonna be a fun tour.”

Chesney and Ballerini previously teamed up on her heartfelt ballad, “half of my hometown,” which earned Ballerini her first-ever Country Music Association award. The “HEARTFIRST” star recently shared some of the stories behind her biggest songs, ahead of the CMT Storytellers: Kelsea Ballerini premiere. Ballerini shared that before the collaboration, “we didn’t know each other, and I finished the demo vocals at like 1:30 in the morning, and I had had some wine. I musically booty called Kenny Chesney — meaning I sent him the demo. Don’t get crazy — and the next day, he said yes.”

“‘I Go Back’ is a song about holding all those things that shaped you very close and keeping them alive anyway you can,” Chesney shared as he announced the tour. “In 2023, I decided rather than just go repeat what we did on this summer's stadium tour, I wanted to take this band and these songs to a lot of the cities we played on our way up, call it the I Go Back Tour and do just that.”
