Saturday's incredibly moving celebration of Taylor Hawkins' life and music was filled with fitting tributes and appearances from Rock royalty.
The September 3rd show in London featured artists and bands that were admired by Hawkins throughout his life. Wembley Stadium attendees and viewers streaming around the world were treated to performances from musicians who served as inspiration to Hawkins and those that the late Foo Fighters drummer inspired.
The tribute exceeded every possible expectation I had with Queen, Rush, Supergrass, Brian Johnson, Wolfgang Van Halen and others taking the occasion to not only offer tribute to Hawkins, but also to Eddie Van Halen, Jeff Buckley, Freddie Mercury, David Bowie and Neil Peart.
Among the many highlights was this unreal performance of Van Halen's Hot For Teacher with a perfect rendition of the famous Eddie Van Halen solo performed by Eddie's son Wolfgang.
A second tribute to Taylor Hawkins is scheduled for September 27th at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. So, on the heels of the very well done and very well received London show, what can we expect in L.A. and how might it be different?
Among the artists scheduled to appear in Los Angeles that were not a part of the London show are Joan Jett, Alanis Morrissette, Gene Simmons, Nikki Sixx and Chad Smith.
Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson from Rush who performed in London as a part of the tribute will also appear at the Los Angeles Show as will Wolfgang Van Halen.
Hopefully, we'll be treated to another performance of My Hero with the Foo Fighters joined by Taylor's son Shane - the most emotional part of the London show.
After streaming the London show here in the states, I look forward to seeing what Dave Grohl and the Hawkins family have in store for us in L.A.
