In The Feels: Janitor Quietly Feeds Thousands

Doramise Moreau is a part-time janitor at a technical school in Miami. And while she’s a valuable member of that school community – she’s even more valuable to those in need around her. She’s been cooking meals for thousands of people in need since the beginning of the pandemic.

Doramise is a 60-year-old widow who lives with her children, nephew and three grandchildren – and spends most of her time shopping for ingredients and cooking 1,000 to 1,500 meals each week in the kitchen of a home built by Habitat for Humanity.

She prepares the meals herself, and then passes the food off to volunteers at her church, who then serve the meals or deliver the meals to shut-ins.

Doramise was nominated for a community service award by her pastor, who called her “a true servant” who “takes care of everybody from A to Z.”
