I've been eating plant based for a little over three years now and it is getting easier to find options at many restaurants. The latest to throw their hat in the ring is Pizza Hut. They announced this week that it has teamed up with Beyond Meat for a meat-free Italian sausage topping. According to the company, Pizza Hut's Beyond Italian Sausage will be available "for a limited time while supplies last."
This makes them the first national pizza chain to introduce a plant-based meat option to their pizzas. While this is a great first step, the pizzas still aren't fully plant-based, as the cheese remains a milk-based mozzarella. So it's not for pure vegans, but it is a great way to introduce people to the idea of a plant-based diet.
The chain will offer two new pizza options with a plant-based Italian sausage substitute: a "Beyond Italian Sausage" pizza (a cheese pizza topped with Beyond sausage crumble) and a "Great Beyond" pizza (a veggie pizza also topped with the sausage crumble).
Question is, are you willing to give this a try?
