Every Spring, the Nevada Affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) has hosted PurpleStride, the walk to end pancreatic cancer. PanCAN’s PurpleStride has always been an incredible celebration, uniting thousands of people from the community including survivors, caregivers and loved ones who have been impacted by the world’s toughest cancer. However, due to the coronavirus, this year, PurpleStride Las Vegas Presented by OptumCare Cancer Care is inviting the community to come together on Saturday, March 20, 2021 and stride their own way to raise awareness and funds for the world’s toughest cancer.
“Even in the midst of a pandemic, pancreatic cancer does not slow down or stop and neither do we,” said Chloe St. George the PanCAN’s Nevada Affiliate Communications Chair. “Patients and families need us now more than ever, and we are committed to continuing to raise vital funds and awareness to support the pancreatic cancer community.”
We are pleased to announce that James Holzhauer, "Jeopardy James”, is a special guest and team captain for PurpleStride Las Vegas 2021 Presented by Optumcare Caner Care! His team ALL IN FOR ALEX seeks to honor Mr. Trebek’s brave battle with pancreatic cancer. James's fundraising goal is $8,244, one dollar for each episode of Jeopardy! that Alex hosted. Nikki Campagna, Nevada Affiliate Mission Chair, lost her brother-in-law Tony to pancreatic cancer. She and her family from all over the country will be striding their own way on March 20th decked out in their best purple gear, synchronizing their start times, carrying Trekking for Tony signs, and taking selfies with different landmarks to create a PurpleStride Day collage. This past November, Nikki held a virtual Pie in the Face challenge to raise money for her team. People donated $10 per pie to watch her, live on Facebook, take pies to the face, She raised over $600.
