Reba McEntire kicked off the 56th annual CMA Awards with Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert on Wednesday evening (November 9), performing a heartfelt tribute to late country legend Loretta Lynn. McEntire joined the trio on stage wearing a stunning black Western-style suit with shimmering green fringe — and she revealed the meaning behind it you might’ve missed.

Unable to resist a good Throwback Thursday, McEntire shared on her social media channels the morning after the annual awards show that “Sandi Spika designed this fringed green western suit for my 1995 tour and we pulled it out of the archives for last night’s [CMA Awards Loretta Lynn] tribute!”

McEntire included side-by-side snapshots wearing the same look nearly three decades apart. Her social media followers, who applauded her performance with Underwood and Lambert, gushed that the country superstar has “aged like the finest wine,” and she’s bringing “back all the 90s goodness.” The throwback also caught fellow country giant Trisha Yearwood’s attention. She retweeted McEntire’s photo and said: “I love it [Reba] !!! You looked and sounded amazing! Thanks for honoring Loretta.”

Lynn was born on April 14, 1932 in Butcher Holler, Kentucky. The self-taught singer and guitar player turned into one of country music’s biggest legends, blazing trails for female artists in the industry. She was known for unforgettable songs like “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” “The Pill,” “”Don’t Come Home A- Drinkin,” “You Ain’t Woman Enough,” “Fist City” and others. Lynn’s family confirmed that the beloved singer passed away peacefully on October 4 at her ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. She was 90. McEntire previously paid tribute to Lynn and thanked her for “paving the rough and rocky road for all us girl singers.”
