Las Vegas High School Student Dies During Flag Football Game

Well this is news parents never want to hear.

A student at Desert Oasis High School suffered a medical episode during an athletic event on Thursday. This is according to a message sent to families. At the event, staff immediately began to provide medical aid to the student and continued until paramedics arrived, according to Desert Oasis Principal Ian Salzman.

Tragically, that student has passed away.

CCSD Superintendent Jesus Jara released this statement:

The Clark County School District grieves the sudden passing of one of our student-athletes. The loss of this young life deeply saddens us, and our thoughts are with the student’s friends, family, and loved ones. When a tragedy occurs, it affects not only that school but the entire Clark County School District family, and we grieve with the students, staff, and families affected by this loss.

Principal Salzman asked families to monitor any signs of grief in children. They might not know how to express themselves and could experience disbelief, anger or grief.

The Clark County School District's Crisis Response Team will be available for anyone in need of their services.

Anyone with questions or concerns is directed to contact the school.
