Miranda Lambert shared a moment — and a tequila shot — with a concertgoer at her latest Velvet Rodeo show in Las Vegas, after reading the fan’s t-shirt that appeared to reference the viral moment that the Palomino star called out a group for taking a photo during her performance.
“Her shirt says, ‘Shoot tequila, not selfies,’” Lambert said, adding with a laugh, “she did it, I didn’t! That’s bada**.”
The crowd cheered as the “Drunk (And I Don't Wanna Go Home” star took the shot of tequila on stage and shared that moment with the fan. Watch the fan-recorded video, retweeted by a Lambert fan account, here:
The fan handed Lambert a mini bottle of tequila, and Lambert raised it and took the shot with her on stage. That moment, which reportedly happened at Saturday’s show (July 22), follows a now-viral video of Lambert stopping her performance of “Tin Man,” a 2016 ballad on her The Weight Of These Wings album, to tell a group of women to stop taking photos.
“These girls are worried about their selfie and not listening to the song, and it’s pissing me off a little bit,” Lambert said in a video from the July 15 show that circulated on social media. “Sorry. I don’t like it at all! We’re here to hear some country music tonight. I’m singin’ some country damn music!”
The influencer who attended the concert with a group of friends later posted the photos and spoke out about that moment. She told NBC (which noted that a rep for Lambert declined to comment) that “it felt like I was back at school with the teacher scolding me for doing something wrong and telling me to sit down back in my place. …I feel like she was determined to make us look like we were young, immature and vain. But we were just grown women in our 30s to 60s trying to take a picture.”
This weekend marked the end of the latest round of Lambert’s Velvet Rodeo residency, which will pick up again later this year. She wrote as she shared a series of photos on Instagram: “That’s a wrap on Velvet Rodeo Round 4 and we raised a little hell. See y’all back in Vegas this November & December 💙✨”
