Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence said he was "feeling better" after being carted off the field during his team's 23-20 loss to the AFC South Division rival Houston Texans on Sunday (December 1).
"Thank you to everyone who has reached out / been praying for me. I’m home and feeling better. Means a lot, thank you all," Lawrence wrote on his X account hours after the injury.
Lawrence took a hit from Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair while sliding, which left him in a defenseless position, during the second quarter of Sunday's game. The incident resulted in a skirmish between the two teams and Al-Shaair being ejected.
Lawrence was down on the field for several minutes before being helped up, driven off in a cart and later ruled out for the remainder of the game with a concussion
“Well, look, it’s a play that nobody wants to see in our league obviously because you see what happens after the fact and it just escalates,” said Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson during his postgame press conference via the New York Post. “It’s unfortunate, it really is. It’s unfortunate. I’m just glad that Trevor’s going to be fine. He’ll obviously be in the protocol, but it just is an unfortunate play.”
Lawrence, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, signed a five-year, $275 million extension with the Jaguars in June. The former Clemson standout has gone 2-8 as a starter and thrown for 2,045 yards, 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 2024.
