It was a hotly contested election and the votes have been counted …
The town of New Rabbit Hash, Kentucky, has elected Wilbur Beast -- a French bulldog -- as mayor.
Now, Wilbur Beast is not the first “canine in chief” for Rabbit Hash. The community of just a few hundred people has been electing dogs as its mayors since the 1990s.
And, they’ve been doing it for a good cause. The organizers have turned the tradition into a big fundraising effort to support the Rabbit Hash Historical Society.
Wilbur Beast ended up with 13,143 votes, edging out a beagle named Jack Rabbit and a golden retriever named Poppy. But, most importantly, the historical society raised more than $22,000.
