Emojis may be fun to add to messages for family and friends, but did you know you could be aging yourself with the choice of emojis you use?
Gen Z is judging you based on your choice of emoji, and that’s particularly true when it comes to the thumbs-up emoji. While it may seem like an easy way to show your approval, apparently Gen Z doesn’t see it that way. A 24-year-old recently shared on Reddit that a thumbs up should “never (be) used in any situation,” noting it’s “hurtful.”
“No one my age in the office does it,” he writes, “ but the Gen X people always do it. Took me a bit to adjust and get [it] out of my head that it means they're mad at me.”
Overall, a new survey found that 24% of Gen Z think the thumbs-up emoji makes you look old, but it isn’t the only one. The Top 10 emojis that make you look old include:
- Thumbs up (24%)
 - Red love heart (22%)
 - OK hand (20%)
 - Tick (17%)
 - Poo (17%)
 - Loudly crying face (16%)
 - Monkey eye cover (15%)
 - Clapping hands (10%)
 - Lipstick kiss mark (10%)
 - Grimacing face (9%)
