Thomas Rhett and Blake Shelton shared a recent FaceTime call on Instagram and TikTok on Monday (July 28), and commenters hailed the country artists “the duo we didn’t know we needed.”
“That weak connection will getcha every time,” Rhett wrote in the caption, nodding to the moments that Shelton pretended to freeze on the call. “Fix your wifi [Blake Shelton].”
Shelton teamed up with Rhett on “Old Tricks,” a collaboration that made its debut earlier this month. The Oklahoma-born country star said he wasn’t available to meet with Rhett in person to film content related to the duet, so Rhett headed to Shelton’s Nashville bar to audition four “lookalikes.” Rhett said of the four candidates (who didn't know they'd be judged by Rhett during the audition): “…some of them don’t look like Blake at all. But some of them act like Blake.”
“Old Tricks” is one of the new tracks added to Rhett’s latest studio album, About A Woman. Rhett said teaming up with Shelton was one of his “biggest career bucket list dreams,” along with headlining a show at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts, which he did on July 19.
