High school graduate Verda Tetteh will be attending Harvard University in the fall on a full scholarship. Verda had such a successful high school career that she earned an extra $40,000 in scholarship money.
Upon learning about this extra $40,000 award, Verda turned it down -- and asked that it be transferred to someone attending community college.
You see, even though Verda will be attending one of the most prestigious universities in the world, she has a soft spot in her heart for community colleges as her mother attended one -- at age 39.
Her mom’s experience at that community college gave her mom -- and the family -- a big boost. So, giving that scholarship money to someone on that path who needs it was a special way of paying it forward.
