3 New Year Resolutions That Are Healthy, Helpful and Realistic

Resolutions are tough to keep. Often times they are lofty goals that can get left behind out of frustration. The experts say the key to a good resolution is make it realistic and obtainable. Mine is a little lofty...I'm going to run 500 miles in 2021. I know, that may not be for everyone.

If you're struggling for ideas, here are a few to try...

1) Monthly 30 day challenges. Try something new for 30 days and see how your feel? Go without alcohol for a month, a month without meat, 30 days of good deeds. You'll learn a lot about yourself in the process and may find healthy lifestyle changes that don't require a full year commitment.

2) Set a daily step challenge. If you have an iPhone, use that health app or download a step counter and challenge yourself to move, and yes walking counts. I'm set to 10,000 steps a day, but if that's a lot for you, start at 5,000. Start your day with a walk and you'll hit your goal early on and feel accomplished!

3) Here's one that is a little outside the box. Instead of stressing about weight loss or exercise, try helping others. You might be surprised how much happiness you will find in this process. There's a lot of distress in the world these days. Do a 365 day good deed challenge and strive to help someone else each day. That little ripple could turn into a big wave of kindness.

Goals are good for the soul, especially in uncertain times. Try setting one for the year, you might be surprised what you can accomplish!
